The Best Exposed Aggregate Concrete Sealers
Exposed Aggregate patios, driveways, and walkways are decorative stone surfaces commonly used in residential and commercial landscaping. These surfaces require a coat of a new sealer to provide protection and enhancement to the substrate. This Exposed Aggregate Sealer is typically applied every 1-3 years depending on the exposure and traffic.
There are many advantages to sealing an exposed aggregate surface
- Gives surface a richer color and added shine
- Protects from winter salts
- Seals from hairline cracks and pitting of aggregate
Sealing Exposed Aggregate is very easy and any residential homeowner can do this with ease.
Prep Aggregate First
- Clean surface with a pressure washer to remove dirt.
- If needed use a concrete cleaner to remove stains such as grease or rust.
- After drying for 24-48 hours, apply an exposed aggregate crack filler to any large cracks.
Apply Exposed Aggregate Sealer
- Using a roller, apply sealer and a spread rate of 100-150 sq. feet per gallon making sure not to puddle the sealer.
- Let dry for 1-3 hours
- If needed, apply a light second coat to even out the appearance or increase the gloss level
Maintaining Your Exposed Aggregate Surface
Typically it is best to repeat this process every 1-3 years to keep your aggregate protected and looking great.

Questions on Sealing Exposed Aggregate? Please ask below
I’m getting ready to purchase the SuperSeal 30 for my exposed aggregate patio, walk-way and front porch. I haven’t sealed it in 5 years and the people I hired did a terrible job because it didn’t last. Not sure what they used. The color of my aggregate is Red Flint. Should I use a clear sealer or a tint?
Most use the brown tint for exposed aggregate.
Can I apply aggregate concrete sealer without recleaning it after just applying concrete water proofing water base by mistake.
No. You would need to strip it most likely.
Part of my driveway cracked just after the home was built and a section had to be replaced. There is now a difference in the color of that section from the rest of the driveway. Is there a product I can apply to make the color more uniform?
Sorry but no there is not.
Aggregate sealers do not fill cracks nor do they fix flaking material.
My agregate driveway has some flaking of the material. Will a sealer help? There is also a crack. Will a sealer fill this?
SS30 is not legal for CA. You can use the SS VOC version there. One coat will cover about 100-125 sq. feet.
I forgot to ask but is S.S. 30 the best product in your line for 20 year old exposed aggregate that has never been coated. Also will one coat using 100 sq. ft. per gallon coverage do this driveway?
How does Super Seal 30 compare with more expensive Glaze N Seal Wet Look Green Lacquer and is it legal to be used in California? Is it sold in any Calif. businesses?

How do I remove aggregate sealer from slate patio floor!
Sonia, sorry but a sealer cannot make a surface “easier” or less “hot” to walk on.
Will one of the above mentioned products help make the exposed aggregate easier to walk on? Over the years some of the cement has deteriorated and exposes more of the rocks and it is getting a little uncomfortable to walk on. The area is around a pool and gets a lot of traffic. Also, will one of the products make it less hot to walk on?
Tom, about 6-12 months.
What would the shelf life be on a partial used 5gal of Super seal 30
