I have just cleaned and pressure washed my 15 year old concrete pool deck. I am looking for a sealer to bring out the color and maybe just a bit of a wet look but obviously not slippery. What would you recommend to use and how much will I need for my 1200 ft2 deck (never previously sealed). I live in New Jersey if geography makes a difference.
Enhancing color sealers are designed for decorative concrete surfaces such as pavers, stamped, etc. They do not work well for plain white poured concrete as it will dry blotchy looking. A regular water repelling sealer is better. Look at Masonry Saver Heavy duty Water Repellent.

I already ordered the 6000 -- from you. That is because a local brick sales company suggested that a sealer would work well, without the joint stabilizer, on the polymer sand/brick installation. Also, I knew that the 8700 did both, but I wanted to stay away from the "solvent-based" spray. What could happen to my brick driveway by NOT going with the joint stabilizer--will it not hold up as well, maybe?
Thank you

I've read often that a joint stabilizer would be the ideal "finishing touch" to my new brick driveway. So I guess my bricklayer was right when he recommended Surebond SB-1300. I told him I would give it some thought. So he finished the job after gently watering in the Surebond polymeric sand. It's been 2 months and here is my question: Does the SB-6000 basically do the job of the joint stabilizing (SB-1300)when it seals, or should I do both - even though I prefer the 6000 "wet look" AND the ease of its water base properties.
The SB-6000 does not stabilize the sand. Better to use the SB-8700 as it does both.

thanks for the input. I will try another coat. I did put 10 gallons down on 768 sq ft. I assume the brick may have been porous because it had years of exposure to the elements.

Here are two pics...
1. Patio surface where you can see loss of wet look, primarily on smaller bricks
2. Porch border brick had white substance/dripping on the vertical face of the bricks
Looks like you applied the sealer too thin. Add another coat. The coat should be applied at 100 sq. feet per gallon.

It could be that they were very absorbent and sealer just soaked in deeply. Another coat should work on this. Do you want to post a picture here so we can confirm?

Thanks for the quick reply. The 'wet look' seemed to fade after the rain and there were white substance on some brick (especially the vertical end cap bricks on porch) The bricks are about 15 years old with exposure to Michigan weather.

The SS25 is not washed washed away by rain or color changed by rain. It is hard to say what the issue or how to fix based on your data. Has it turned white in color or something else? Was the pre sealed like failed by an old sealer that had turned white in color?

We haven't sealed our pool deck in several years.
It is stamped and had color, but the color is not very visible right now. Hoping it will brighten when power-washed and sealed.
Can anyone recommend a product and method that is good for pool decks, has the anti-slip additive ("sharkbite"??), and will restore the color?
Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

Look at the Super Seal 25 sealer. You can add the Supergrip or Shark Grip into it.

How do I figure how much I need? How do I apply this?

Thanks, Ken
Yes. You would need a couple of coats to boost the appearance for Chicago style bricks. One coat covers 100-200 sq. feet per gallon. Applies with a garden type pump sprayer.

Does it look richer when wet with water? If so then just use a product like the SuperSeal 25. If there is an older sealer on the patio that has turned white in color then that should be perspired off first.

Appreciate the response. In your opinion, do you think the polymeric sand needs to cure prior to applying the sealer. A paving company told me it was recommended to wait 30 days. Thanks for the sealer recommendations. What do you think of using Superbond 8700. This product peaked my interest due to the anti-fungal aspect. Thanks
It is not so much a cure but more to make sure you do not get the dreaded "Poly haze". This happens when not all of the sand dust is removed from the top of the pavers prior to misting with water. It is a huge problem if you seal it in as it turns white under the sealer. SB 8700 will give a darkening wet look but no shine. It is a good sealer.

That is residue from the stripper that was not removed fully with rinsing. A good concrete cleaner like this will remove it:

My stamped concrete walk was originally sealed by the contractor and resealed by him a few years later. It has been about 4 years since the last sealing and the walk is very faded/white except for a small space under an overhang. The contractor is no longer in business and I don't know what he used to seal the walk. Please recommend an approach/sealer that I can use to restore the finish.
Most likley if it has turned wheite then you will need to strip off the current sealer with our Concrete sealer Stripper. Once removed then you can apply the SuperSeal 25.

Unfortunately when over applied you may have issues with “bubbles” forming in the sealer. This typically happens to Stamped Concrete or smooth decorative concrete surfaces.

When a solvent-based acrylic sealer is applied, some of the sealer penetrates into the porous concrete. If the application is too thick, or if too many coatings are applied, the solvent is not able to evaporate before the sealer dries. When that happens, the solvent gets trapped and eventually creates enough pressure that it forces its way out, creating the bubbles.

-Sweep or blow off the dirt and grime
-Wait until there is not any direct sunlight. Usually late in the day is best and cloudy. Make sure no rain overnight.
-Applying a solvent called xylene to the entire area with a garden pump sprayer to reset the sealer and “melt” the bubbles.
-Let the sealer sit overnight and dry properly

I have a chunk of exposed aggregate concrete came off. I sealed the surface about 1.5 years ago. What will happen to the surrounding surface when I fill, patch, and hose off the concrete during the repair process. Would the concrete water will get under the surrounding surfaces

Hello. I had 1" pavers installed over concrete pool deck about 4 months ago. I am ready to seal it. I want 'wet look' to bring out colors in the pavers with matte to semi gloss finish. Will super seal M give me that wet look? If not I will probably go with superseal 25 or surebond 6000. Any differences between those two products I should consider before choosing one? Thanks!
No the Super Seal M does not give a wet look. The Super Seal Matte or the other two will.

Is Seperseal30 still VOC compliant in FL?

I have a walkway-retaining wall, driveway, and front patio that I had brick pavers installed (approx. 3.5 years ago), that had polymeric sand pushed into all the joints and then was sealed with Seal-N-Lock; the water-based "all in 1 day" sealant product. What I believe I want now is the Superseal 30 high-gloss acrylic sealant applied after the pavers are prepped/cleaned. I'm planning on hiring out to a local paver cleaning/sealing contractor, once I determine who I want to use. To make sure they know what they are doing, what would they have to do (if anything) to prep/clean my pavers before the Superseal30 application? They wouldn't need to resand joints would they? After cleaning, they'd have to wait for the pavers to dry completely I'd imagine. Here in FL, that might not be that long, depending on the high temps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
Super Seal 30 is allowed in FL. For prep just make sure the surface is clean and dry. Sand only if you need to fill gaps or loss of sand. After prep you should allow to dry for 24-48 hours before applying.

What do you recommend for sealing a stamped concrete driveway: MasonrySaver Decorative Concrete Sealer or SuperSeal30?

I already used SuperSeal30 for my aggregate concrete patio with great results but was wondering if perhaps MasonrySaver is a batter choice for stamped concrete? What are the main differences between the two products?

Thank you!

No you should not dilute the SS30 nor would diluting stop yellowing of a product. The SS30 is a non-yellowing product already.

That can happen on stamped concrete from the sun as it dries. Get a gallon of xylene and apply it to the bubbles late in the day as the sun is about to go down. The bubbles will melt down and lie flat.

I recently put Superseal 30 on my stamped concrete patio. In certain areas there are tiny air bubbles.

Could there have been some trace moisture from the cleaning from the previous day? I cleaned and prepped the area and waited 24 hrs for it to dry.

Will do. Just two more questions:

Have there been any issues with compatibility with the previously used sealer?

Do you have recommendations for prepping the area?

Typically I'll use a leaf blower to get the heavy stuff off; then a mild dish soap with a broom and water; followed by a good rinse. The following day just before I seal it I'll hit it again with a leaf blower.
As long as the old sealer has not discolored or failed than there should not be issues. If you are concerned than we do have samples for you to test.

Your prep seems good if you are just removing dirt and such.

Its all faded with a flat look. Mainly in the areas of direct sunlight; which is most of it.

But once it's wet it looks like it should; the colors show back up.

I have stamped concrete patios and walk ways. For the last few years I've had to re seal them and the finish barely lasts a season. It seems to be more prevalent with areas of direct sunlight.

I followed the directions from the local dealer but have not had much luck. One year they new I had just finished it the previous season and recommended Xylenol with a sprayer after a good cleaning; it looked fantastic for a short duration anyway.

Any thoughts?

Kevin, you cannot add "grips" into water based sealers. They are too thin. Nothing you can do.

You cannot re-etch once it has been sealed. You would need to strip off the current sealer then re stain to add any color.

The Masonry Deco Sealer would be the right choice once you do this.

Shark grip cannot be applied with a sprayer and will not work with the Masonry Saver Decorative Concrete Sealer.

I previousl put down a Sherwin Williams H&C® Semi-Transparent Decorative Stain and then used matte finish water base sealer by the same company on a new concrete patio. I has issues withe the sealer and the stain. the stain did not adhere well in some place and sealer has not held up to abrasion in the past 14 months.

I would like to re etch some of the places that lost color, reapply the stain and this time go with a different sealer. I am looking at the Masonry Saver Decorative Concrete Sealer since it can be applied over existing sealers and also can be applied with an inexpensive plastic sprayer.

Questions:

1) is the sealer a good choice for this full sun application - looking for abrasion resistance on patio in S. Carolina. I prefer a matte finish. Is this at least close to that?

2) Is it a good idea to re-etch. The medeled look is ok for me.

3) can I use "Shark Grip" in the sprayer. If not can I put it on after spraying by hand applying?

Thanks for your help.

The Super Seal 25 is far superior to the lowes and home depot brand sealer, thank you for your recommendation. One final question. I have finished sealing my pool deck and noticed that in some areas the sand between the joints has settled over night since sealing and really could do with a little more sand in place..If I resand and then reseal with the super seal 25 and just give it a light coat will it show a deeper color where 2 coats were applied or should it be OK.

Looks like need to order some more for my driveway!

Any recommendations would be awesome..Thanks again
